Biography:
Dana R. Fisher is Director of the Center for Environment, Community, & Equity and Professor in American University’s School of International Service, as well as a Non‑Resident Senior Fellow at Brookings and chair of the ASA Political Sociology Section. Her research employs mixed methods to examine democracy, civic engagement, activism, and climate politics—studying elites’ climate responses, national service corps’ disaster work, and pathways to activism. She’s authored over 80 peer‑reviewed pieces and seven books, including Saving Ourselves: From Climate Shocks to Climate Action (2024), delivered a TED Talk on “Apocalyptic Optimism,” contributed to IPCC AR6, and frequently appears in outlets like the Washington Post, New York Times, and on ABC, CNN, and PBS.
