A Climate Change with Matt Matern Climate Podcast

Garret is the Founder and CEO of Vycarb, leading the team in developing innovative climate technologies. He is a recent Activate NY Fellow and serves as a science advisor on several climate and society initiatives, including the OpenAir Collective’s Carbon Gardener Project and the ClimateMusic Project. He has also contributed to the New York State Climate Impacts Assessment, serving on both the Ecosystems Technical Workgroup and the Environmental Justice and Equity Subgroup.

Garret earned his PhD in organic geochemistry from the University of Colorado Boulder, where his research focused on the ecological impacts of global climate change using analytical chemistry to measure changes in global and local carbon cycling and ecosystems. He also holds a BS in geology and environmental geosciences and a BA in religious studies from the College of Charleston, where his research explored climate change and pollution impacts on water and soil quality, as well as religious, economic, and political responses to climate change.

Following his PhD, Garret worked with the Colorado Wildlife Counsel and Colorado Parks and Wildlife in conservation outreach, policy, and education. He later served as a research associate at Cornell University, studying soil health and carbon dioxide removal in agriculture.
