Marc Carrel is President and CEO of Breathe Southern California, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving air quality, advancing public health, and promoting environmental equity. He brings decades of experience in environmental policy, government relations, public affairs, and community engagement.

Before joining Breathe Southern California, Marc spent nearly a decade at the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD), where he led environmental justice initiatives, community outreach programs, and federal policy efforts. He helped develop innovative partnerships with underserved communities and played a key role in securing federal support for clean transportation and air quality improvements.

Earlier in his career, Marc served in senior advisory roles for state and federal elected officials, including positions with the California State Assembly, the Lieutenant Governor’s Office, the California Secretary of State, and the U.S. Congress. He also helped lead California’s response to emerging concerns about electronic voting security and served on numerous public commissions focused on transportation, human rights, trade, and environmental policy.

Marc holds a B.A. from the University of Michigan and a J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. Through his leadership, he continues to advance clean air solutions, environmental justice, and healthier communities across Southern California.
