Meredith Hankins works to reduce climate pollution under the Clean Air Act, with a focus on the power sector. They manage a team of attorneys and advocates focused on developing, protecting, and enforcing strong federal standards through litigation and administrative advocacy. Hankins has more than a decade of experience working with the Clean Air Act, beginning as a refinery permitting engineer at the South Coast Air Quality Management District and later as a deputy attorney general representing the state of California in challenges to environmental rollbacks during the first Trump administration.

They also previously served as a legal fellow with the Emmett Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at UCLA School of Law and as a senior attorney with the Institute for Policy Integrity at NYU School of Law, as well as clerked for Justice Michael Wilson on the Supreme Court of Hawai’i. Hankins has a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Southern California and a JD from the University of California at Davis. They work out of NRDC’s Washington, D.C., office. Hankins is admitted to practice law in California and the District of Columbia.
