Biography:
Tony Salas has been active in the area of agribusiness startups, mergers, and acquisitions. He is considered a very influential person in modern Latin American agricultural trends and has been former Director General of the National Ag-R&D Institute (ranked as Vice-Minister of Agriculture), General Manager of the Regional Government of San Martin, and founder of ACM, Peru’s leading ag-consulting company. Dr. Salas has served in many national and international Committees and Boards, gathering professional experience in over 30 countries, for large private companies and public project sponsored by international donors and funding (CAF, FAO, UNDP, WB, IDB, KFW, MIF, OECD, IFC, AECI, JICA, USAID, DED, SDC, FIP, DEG, etc.).
He was the Director of the Masters Program in Agribusiness Management offered jointly by the Universidad del Pacífico – Peru and the Universidad de Almería – Spain. Being a farmer as well, he has led consulting teams for studies, roadshows and workshops along different links of the ag-food value chain. He was strategic in Peru’s first ag-fund as an investment vehicle for the pension funds (raised US$ 50 million), and with ACM he was exposed to over 400 projects worldwide and was in charge of supervising the technical and commercial operations of 3 private trusts in Peru, for national and international ag-business investors, of US$ 21, U$31 and US$ 38 million, respectively. He has participated as a part-time professor at the graduate Universidad de Almería (Spain), Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic) and, Universidad de Guayaquil (Ecuador) and has been a speaker in over 30 international events.
Dr. Salas holds an MS and a Ph.D. in Crop Science from North Carolina State University and a joint MBA from the University of Wageningen – Netherlands and the Krannet School at Purdue University in Food and Agribusiness Management. He serves currently as President and CEO of Shared-X and is a Board member at ACM. Dr. Salas is fluent in Spanish, English, and German.
