A Climate Change with Matt Matern Climate Podcast

Miranda Green is an investigative journalist based in Los Angeles who focuses on politics and climate change for national audiences.

She is the author of Atmos Magazine’s weekly newsletter, The Understory, and publishes her own climate focused Substack: Evergreen.

Previously she was the National Investigative Reporter at Huffpost and the Director of Investigations at Floodlight News, where she oversaw the nonprofit newsroom’s national investigative team and reported and edited climate focused series. Her stories were co-reported and published with national publications including NPR, ProPublica and The Guardian, several of which were recognized for awards. She reports on energy and the environment, federal agencies, money in politics, dark money and the manipulation of news to spread misinformation.

She’s a winner of the 2025 National Press Club’s Arthur E. Rowse Award for Examining the News Media, the 2025 Los Angeles Press Club A-Mark prize for Reporting on Misinformation and Disinformation, and received Honorable Mention for the National Press Foundation’s 2025 Stokes Award for Best Energy and Environmental Writing. In 2024 she won second place in the National Headliner Awards for a story she reported with NPR that revealed a conservative political operative was behind a growing movement to ban solar panels on “prime” farmland across states. Another two-part series she co-reported with NPR was chosen as a finalist for the 2023 Goldsmith Prize for Investigative Reporting and won the Los Angeles Press Club’s 2024 award on misinformation. A story from the series also won first place for the 2024 Southern Environmental Law Center’s Reed Award for reporting on the environment. She’s a recipient of an Economic Hardship Reporting Project grant to cover the impacts of Covid-19 on vulnerable populations near California’s Salton Sea.

Her reporting has appeared in ProPublica, The Washington Post, New York Magazine, The New York Times, The Atlantic and The Atavist. Previously she reported from Washington, D.C. for 7 years on climate and politics as a staff reporter at CNN, The Hill, The Daily Beast and Scripps News. Investigations she’s most proud of include an investigation into Lincoln Project founder John Weaver’s lascivious conversations with young men he hired for New York Magazine and A deep dive into former Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke’s race to get back to D.C. for Politico Magazine.
